"They never left. They never returned./ Their hearts were almonds in the streets," writes Darwish (Mural) in "The Tragedy of Narcissus, the Comedy of Silver." A revered Palestinian poet recipient of France's Knight of Arts and Belles Lettres medal and the Lotus Prize, and author of 20 poetry collections among other works Darwish was six at time of the Israeli occupations of 1948; his father was killed and his family fled to Lebanon. As a young man, he was repeatedly imprisoned for reading his poetry and not carrying the proper papers. He has since lived all over the world, and advised the PLO Executive Committee between 1982 and 1993, when he resigned in protest of the Oslo accords. In these 14 long and serial poems, translated by various hands and put into their final English versions here by Daniel Abdalhayy Moore, variegated repetitions evince the panorama and detail of refugee experience: "a desert for eternal absurdity/ a desert for the tablets of the law/ ...for school books, prophets and scientists." The voice throughout accumulates a rich mix of world-weariness and endurance: "Ruba'iyat" repeats the refrain "I've seen all I want to see of..." with different referents ("of the sea," "of blood," "of lightning"), while in "Eleven Planets," the speaker finds his own identity foreign: "fearing... my fountain's water,/ milk on the lips of figs, fearing my own language." This text provides in-depth discussion of Contracts. It is probably more thorough than your professor, but you can pick and choose which sections you want to read. It's not set up so that you must read the entire thing front he start. They have a case index that can be useful if you want to see what you're reading is in the book. Additionally, the general index in the back is extremely helpful.My only critique is that one subject might be discussed in multiple sections of the book, causing you to flip lots of pages and speed read quite a bit. However, it's a useful tool if you find yourself to be struggling with contracts!

Approaching final exam time, I really just felt like I needed to hear the content of the Contracts course from a different perspective. This book broke everything down and gave some helpful recommendations as to approaching the issue. As with all supplements, I would suggest renting from a library since you may not end up using it much, or at all, before finals week and may not want to pay for a book that you can't return at the end of the semester.

Honesty very long-winded. The author needs to work on being more concise. For instance Ch 12 on Parole Evidence could have been reduced significantly because the purpose of parole evidence was explained in different degrees of specificity approx 3 separate times. Why not just do that once at the beginning of the chapter? There are more concise supplements out to help explain the hot mess that is contract law.

Bought this for year-end review but didn't end up cracking it since I had so much other material. I will save it for when I study for the bar.

The only reason that I understand Contracts is because of this book.

Very easy to read & explanations are very thorough.

Though it provides clear details about contract in general some of the topics were not specifically discuss in details.

This was my first semester trying the Examples and Explanation series and I loved it!I was fortunate enough to have the casebook written by Blum, the author of this supplement, and reading this book substantially helped with a deeper understanding of the subject. Even if using a different Contracts casebook, I would still recommend this supplement.

Former Washington Post reporter Nathan McCall won critical acclaim for his autobiographical Makes Me Wanna Holler, the story of his troubled youth, his criminal career as a young man, his three-year prison sentence for armed robbery, and his struggles to put his life together after his release. In this collection of essays, McCall addresses social issues and problems, filtering his comments through the lens of his own experience. Thus his commentary in "Gangstas, Guns, and Shoot 'Em Ups," recalls his youthful infatuation with The Godfather, and criticizes the dead-end fantasies of gangster rap. In "Men: We Just Don't Get It," he recalls the times he sexually assaulted women and looks at his own daughter with love and fear. He hopes she'll find someone who loves her, but is afraid she'll meet men who don't treat women with love and respect.

McCall follows up his critically acclaimed autobiography Makes Me Wanna Holler (1994) with this eye-opening collection of personal essays on race and racism in America. One of the principal themes that crops up here, in tones that range from levity to gravity, is that of childhood and parenthood. In the essay entitled ``The Problem with Babies,'' a white toddler who tries to engage McCall in play in a fast-food restaurant is depicted as a sort of adorable predator; the child's ignorance of racial tension between his mother and McCall leads to the conclusion that babies ``don't give a damn about the racial boundaries that grown-ups impose.'' In other pieces, McCall meditates on his son, as he condemns both whites and blacks for the intraracial violence that he states, in no uncertain terms, is destroying the African-American community; he writes of his daughter in an essay in which he confesses to having committed sexual assaults on several women as a young man, not realizing that he wasn't entitled to their favors by virtue of his being male. It is this surprisingly and often disarmingly confessional tone that brings cohesion to these essays. McCall knows his own faults and those of the very community that he defends and of which he is part; he can be slow to admit that those faults include poor family structure and upbringing. He is far quicker to finger white racism as a cause for black suffering, but his strong defense lies in his own experiences. While McCall is reluctant to divorce himself from acceptance of Louis Farrakhan, it is his essay on Muhammad Ali that better depicts a black dissenter as a model human being.
